Your BOOK IT! Experience at Pizza Hut... Tell us about it!

how book it! works

We want BOOK IT! to be a positive and motivating experience for your child.  The following guidelines and information will help make it that way!

  • A Parent Letter is available for teachers to send home so you know what is going on.  Didn’t get it?  Click here to view.
  • BOOK IT! starts on October 1st and ends March 31st of each school year.  Students in grades Kindergarten through 6th are eligible to participate.  The reading goals for BOOK IT! are set monthly.  Not sure what your child’s goal is?  Please contact the teacher and clarify.  Goals that focus on establishing a daily habit or build from month to month are very effective.  Your child will become a better reader if you are on board!
  • Your child’s teacher can verify that the monthly reading goal has been met in any way he or she chooses.  Many teachers use our printable tracking sheets.  Some make their own.  Some require book reports.  Contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about the goal and how it is being verified.
  • When your child brings a Reading Award Certificate home, it should be completely filled out.  Your child’s name should be on the front.  The name of the school and teacher is on the back as well as the teacher’s signature.  Please pay attention to the “date issued” on the back, too, because each certificate expires 30 days from that date of issue.  The motivation to read will continue and be much stronger if the reading feat is rewarded in a timely manner!  The final certificate (March) expires on May 1, 2010.
  • BOOK IT! Reading Award Certificates are redeemable at participating Pizza Huts.  That covers just about every Pizza Hut in the country except kiosks and express units (malls, airports, super centers, gas stations, etc.) and multi-units (KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut combinations).
  • The Reading Award Certificate is only for the student who met the goal and only one certificate can be redeemed per student per visit.  There have been occasions when a student has “saved up” the certificates to treat other siblings or Mom and Dad to free pizza.  As sweet as this gesture is, BOOK IT! is used by teachers to motivate and reward the child who did the reading.  It’s much easier for you to manage this and explain it to your child than it is for the staff at Pizza Hut.  We appreciate your cooperation on this very much!
  • The child must be present to redeem the Reading Award Certificate.  After all, how can we praise and congratulate your child if they aren’t there?  This is our part of the program – and a very important part of it!
  • Selling, trading, copying, purchasing – all of that type of activity is illegal when it comes to the Reading Award Certificates.  The certificates must be used in accordance with the BOOK IT! Program guidelines.  Any other use constitutes fraud.
  • Praise is the best part of BOOK IT!  Many teachers have a cheer or special way of recognizing BOOK IT! readers when they meet the monthly goal.  The team at Pizza Hut also uses different methods with most using a Wall of Fame poster.  Get in on the fun and come up with your own unique way of celebrating the reading efforts and accomplishments throughout the entire program.
