Before, During & After
Kick Off the Week
- Download all the tools you will need.
- 4-6 weeks prior to National Young Readers Week, send a National Young Readers Week Celebrity Read-In Invitation to local celebrities, inviting them to come and read to your students.
- Promote the week to students and parents by highlighting it in the school newsletter and sending home a National Young Readers Week Bookmark with each student.
- Notify your local media of the events of the upcoming week.
- Send a friendly Celebrity Reader Reminder to the celebrities who have agreed to come, noting the date and time for their reading.
Throughout the Week
- Welcome each celebrity reader with a Celebrity Reader Nametag.
- Briefly introduce the celebrity to the class and allow the celebrity a few moments to talk about what they do and why reading is important in their career and life.
- Provide a comfortable chair for the celebrity reader, as well as a bottle of water.
- Allow a few moments after the reading for the students to ask the celebrity questions.
Wrap Up the Week
- Present each celebrity reader with a Certificate of Participation.
- Have your students complete the National Young Readers Week Celebrity Review worksheet. Two versions are available, depending on student level. Alternate version
- Send each celebrity reader a Thank You note, signed by the class.
