The minutes read outside of school are what make the difference. Promise to read to or with your kids daily for at
least 20 minutes to set the stage for them to read because they want to, not because they have to.
ESTABLISH A READING ROUTINE
We all know that kids need routines and will sometimes do things that are part of a routine they might not otherwise do. Just setting up a time each day to read, even at bedtime, can encourage a love of reading that can last them a lifetime. Just do it. Chances are...they'll even pass it on to their own children!
FUEL THE DESIRE
The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is READING ALOUD to children. If you are excited about books, they will be, too. Take a look at our Top 100 Read-Aloud list!
LIVE THE PROMISE
Make it official. Bring daily reading into your home. End of story.
