Parent reads aloud to student; student reads aloud to parent; student reads independently.

2nd graders are often interested in books with chapters but are not yet ready to read them on their own. Encourage parents to choose a more challenging book and read aloud from it during their designated reading time each night. Students reading aloud to parents is still important and builds fluency. Books on tape can be made by parents or other fluent readers and are great for those children who have limited support at home.
