For every one of us that succeeds, it's because there's somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn't always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and school.

Goal Setting Guide for Teachers
4th Graders like series and informational books... consider picture books babyish... like mysteries... have a weird sense of humor and like gross, corny jokes!

Student reads independently; parent reads
aloud to student; buddy reading; partner reading
4th graders still need plenty of
independent reading time to further develop vocabulary
and fluency. Mixing it up, though, by adding buddy
reading (pairing an older student with a younger
student) and partner reading (peers reading together)
keeps these readers engaged. BOOK IT! goals are
flexible and can be changed from month to month.
If parents find that their child prefers to read
independently, they can still participate by reading
the same book and discussing it. The Reading
Contract works well at this grade
level.
