For every one of us that succeeds, it's because there's somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn't always necessarily have to be in your family; for me it was teachers and school.

Student reads independently; parent reads
aloud to student; buddy reading; small
group reading.
6th graders have a lot going on
in their lives and making time for reading can
be a challenge. If there are younger students
in the building, buddy reading is appropriate.
Opinions and views become stronger at this age
so small group reading is sure to yield some good
discussions. 6th graders enjoy listening to a
teacher read aloud so use that to expose them
to literature they may not naturally gravitate
toward. Quality over quantity at this age is a
good rule to go by. The Reading
Contract was designed specifically
for 6th graders.
