Getting Started:
-
Check your school calendar for the week of November 9th. You
will want to talk to the school principal and check your school
calendar as early as possible to avoid any scheduling conflicts.
-
Consult with your librarian. It is possible that he or she
will have great ideas and resources to offer.
-
Check with other teachers. Find out if other teachers at your
school are making plans. You may want to make it a school-wide
event!
-
Schedule your celebrity readers. You can use this printable NYRD Invitation,
or create your own. Celebrity readers can be anyone from your
community that was a former young reader such as: a fireman,
police officer, high school or college sports player, mayor,
radio and t.v. personalities, teachers, parents. Use your
imagination!
-
More ideas! Over the years, teachers have sent us their great
ideas for celebrating NYRD. Check
it out!
-
Notify parents that you will be participating in NYRD. They
may be able to volunteer to assist, bring refreshments, or even
be a celebrity reader!
-
Get noticed! Contact your local newspapers, television
and radio stations.
-
Make certificates of participation for your celebrity readers.
You can make your own or print ours. NYRD
Certificate
- Hand out NYRD bookmarks.
