Mission Statement

Since 1984, the Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program has been dedicated to encouraging reading in schools nationwide. And we know that to make a difference, you really have to Read Your Heart Out®. Our work is more than just a corporate mission; it’s a personal challenge to turn “have to read” into “want to read” and our time-tested incentives work. We are the largest and longest-running corporate supported reading program and now we are fostering the second generation of program alumni. We know that reading makes a difference.

Why Literacy Matters

Daily reading to your children puts them almost 1 year ahead of those not being read to. But children without Basic reading ability when they enter school are 3-4 times more likely to drop out later. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends parents read aloud with children to strengthen language skills, literacy-development and parent-child relationships.

Set monthly reading goals for your students. When they meet their goal, recognize them with a Reading Award Certificate, good for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza®.

BOOK IT! is Flexible!

You can set goals based on your students’ reading ability. Number of minutes, number of pages or number of books – they all work! For children not yet reading independently, you can set a goal where their parent or others read to them.

When your students redeem their Reading Award Certificate at Pizza Hut®, our team members celebrate right along with them and reward students with a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza. Best of all, BOOK IT! is always free!
